How far in the police career will I make it without a criminal justice degree?
I really want to become a police officer when I'm older, I want to help out in my community and make a difference. I'm not a very academically smart person, so I'll probably never end up going to college, but I mean well, and I want a good career when I want to settle down. I want to know if I can progress and make a successful career as a police officer without going to college. Thanks.

You can become a police officer without any college education, but it may be a little more difficult. Each police department has their own policy - more and more departments are requiring any new officers to have at a minimum an associates degree in the Criminal Justice field. Your best bet would be to contact your local police departments (if that is where you are planning on living and working) and asking what their minimum requirements are. It is definitely possible, but when the time comes, you may also be applying for a position against several other individuals who may have the education background.

You'll be chief in no time. But seriously, the chief of the last three departments I've worked for did not hold a degree.

Probably farther than you would WITH a criminal justice degree. SOME college coursework is usually helpful if not required. Criminal Justice is actually the LEAST helpful degree.
